My two Miniature Shorthaired Dachshunds, VELVET Girl Phoebe, a petite Black and Tan, and her son a Shaded Red built like a Sherman tank, KHIYAELDEEDAX Rory-Boyi, refused to be left out of this website especially as they feel they are the much more important. The dogs were of the opinion that they, as they play second fiddle to the cats in all other things, wished to have their own web page. So here it is, but I had great difficulty keeping the cats off it - as you will see! |
When my little girl arrived she was a very tiny Phoebe-baby but, oh, what a big heart and determined character she had even then. Just one look from those big brown eyes and one droop of her long ears and she had you in her thrall. |

Three years on I decided to let Phoebe have a litter of puppies having been told that as it was her first there would only be one or two. There were five! - one girl and four boys. Dad was a Shaded Red and she had one little boy his colour |
It was love at first sight so I decided to keep him and named him KhiyaElDeeDax Rory-Boyi |

Phoebe has a passion for the pond, which is mine, while the fish are my husband's. Rory couldn't care less but feels obliged to look interested. Phoebs is so quick that she has even caught a fish or two! |
The two boys' favourite position each night when watching the telly. My husband always says the dogs are horrible, spoilt little animals. But, I ask you, does it look like I'm the only one doing the spoiling? |

Phoebe has always been a reluctant walker. She likes the idea of it but not the physicality, especially now as she is older. As we set off she lags behind, dragging her feet & casting longing looks behind her to where we have left the car. The only time she perks up on the outward journey is when she sees a big dog - the bigger, the better - as she is quite convinced if she takes it from behind she can kill it with one bite! Little ones are not worth the effort. As soon as we turn round she trots along happily as if she could do this all day. I have to keep my eye on her because if I stop and talk to anyone she tiptoes off back to where she thinks we've left the car, usually in the wrong direction. I've had some heart-stopping moments, I can tell you when I discover her missing! |
Rory went blind a couple of years ago but knowing the venues where we walk he's quite happy off the lead. I'm his seeing-eye human and have to keep a look-out, shouting various warnings like 'mind!', 'wait!' or 'step!' and usually keep him out of danger that way. Some days though, he refuses to listen until he has fallen over and walked into various things! I can always tell if he's lost me by the way he stands stock-still with his ears very pricked listening to where I am. The droop of his ears when I call him indicates his relief that I have not gone off without him |

You see? I said I could not quite keep the cats off the dogs' web page! Here is Rory doing a touch of cat sitting |
And here, again, proof that I cold not quite keep the cats off the dogs' web page! This is Phoebe with Bella's baby, Pi, of whom she was inordinately fond |
|
Ditto here! This little black character ( CWMKATZ Krommetjie - meaning 'crooked' in Afrikaans because he had a very regal crook to his tail) loved Rory to bits, and Rory was quite partial to him, too. |
But as this photo shows, the dogs much prefer to be unbothered by cats when taking a nap on Mum's bed |
|
Ah! What bliss - and no cats to bother us either | |
